King&#8217;s Name Change to Fries King Is Making People Hungry and Confused<\/a><\/strong>\r\n\r\nIt seemed like some kind of social media hoax or joke.\u00a0 So I linked to the AdWeek article and learned that Burger King is <strong><em>pretending<\/em> <\/strong>to change their name to <em>Fries King<\/em>.\r\n\r\nSo not really.\r\n<h3>April Fools?\u00a0 King For a Day?<\/h3>\r\nIf you went to <a href=\"http:\/\/bk.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Burger King&#8217;s website<\/a> on the day of the announcement you could see they did a really good job of pretending.\u00a0 If nothing else, the Burger King people ( or Fries King people) are giving us an interesting PR \/ Social Media case study. And they are flooding their web properties with traffic.\u00a0 They&#8217;re now back to being Burger King.\r\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0887306667?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=vistadevel-20&amp;link_code=as3&amp;camp=211189&amp;creative=373489&amp;creativeASIN=0887306667\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/images.amazon.com\/images\/P\/0887306667.01._AA_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"106\" height=\"160\" title=\"\"><\/a>What if They REALLY Did Change?<\/h3>\r\nI believe that <em>The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing<\/em> is one of the most valuable marketing books out there.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve had significant success by applying one particular law:\r\n<blockquote><strong>If you can&#8217;t be first in your category, create a category that you CAN be first in.<\/strong><\/blockquote>\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3448 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/brain-sillouette-cropped.png\" alt=\"Positioning\" width=\"140\" height=\"146\" title=\"\">Burger King will never surpass McDonald&#8217;s in the <em>Burger Category<\/em>.\u00a0 The <em>Fries Category<\/em> is wide open. And whether they are pretending or not, they have planted their flag in the minds of french fry consumers as the new<strong><em> King of Fries<\/em><\/strong>, as Ries &amp; Trout suggest.\u00a0 Better that than <em>Lord of the Fries<\/em>. (sorry!)\r\n<h3>Should they stop pretending and make the change permanent?<\/h3>\r\nThat depends.\u00a0 Is the #1 position in the Fries Category more valuable than the #2 position in the Burger Category?\u00a0 Likely not.\u00a0 But for all of us, it is a strategy idea worth exploring.\u00a0 In what category do your prospective customers place <em>you<\/em>?\u00a0 Are you #1 or are you an <em>also ran<\/em>?\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>REALLY?
