I&#8217;m <strong>not<\/strong> talking about you 3-year leased car, but your 3-day rental.<\/p><p>You might take meticulous care of their own vehicle to the point of cleaning the tires. Why wouldn&#8217;t you give similar care to a rental car?\u00a0 We know the simple, four-word reason.<\/p><h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>You Don&#8217;t OWN it.<\/strong><\/h4><p>And if you don&#8217;t own it, why should you care?<\/p><h3>What About Your <em>Ideas<\/em>?<\/h3><p>Whether you&#8217;re talking about a new strategy, your PowerPoint presentation or going to a different restaurant, there must be a transfer of ownership for your ideas take flight.\u00a0 If you can&#8217;t get your target audience to own it, you might as well be waiting for them to wash their rented cars.<\/p><h3><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3522 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/donkey.jpg\" alt=\"Donkey\" width=\"160\" height=\"183\" title=\"\">What Happens When You ASSUME Ownership?<\/h3><p>If you&#8217;re like me, you probably had a boss who challenged your use of the word ASSUME by sharing the acronym for making an ass out of you and me.\u00a0\u00a0 And if you&#8217;re like me, you bought the idea right away.\u00a0 After all, who wants to take the chance of making either your boss or yourself look like an ass.<\/p><p>Since No one washes a rental car and no one wants to intentionally look like an ass, is it fair to assume that you want others to <strong><em>own<\/em> <\/strong>your great ideas instead of simply <strong><em>renting<\/em> <\/strong>them?<\/p><p>It&#8217;s even more important to assure transfer ownership of your ideas. Unlike apartments, you can&#8217;t collect a damage deposit in advance.\u00a0 Renters may or may not damage your ideas.\u00a0 But if you assume that others own them simply because you shared, you need to lower your expectations.<\/p><h3><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-3523 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/agree-button.png\" alt=\"agree-button\" width=\"167\" height=\"100\" title=\"\">Tom&#8217;s Top Two Tactics To Transfer Thoughts from <em>Rented<\/em> to <em>Owned<\/em><\/h3><p>Ownership is about the emotion of caring.
