site, via email and personally. \u00a0 98% of the comments are positive.\u00a0\u00a0 I occasionally blog about examples of leaders who have achieved at a high level and explore their circumstances.\u00a0 These have triggered comments from readers who have issues with my choice of examples.\r\n<h3>Two Notable Examples:<\/h3>\r\nArticles written about&#8230;\r\n<ol>\r\n\t<li><a title=\"Nelson Mandela \u2013 A Level Five Leader\" href=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/nelson-mandela-a-level-five-leader\/\">Nelson Mandela<\/a><\/li>\r\n\t<li><a title=\"The Derrick Rose Challenge: Why Can\u2019t YOU?\" href=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/why-cant-you\/\">Derrick Rose<\/a><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\nIn the first case, I was reminded\/informed that Mandela was anti-Semitic and anti-Israel.\u00a0 In the second case, I heard about Mr. Rose cheating on his college board exams.\r\n\r\nIn both cases, I stand by my decision to use them as examples of humans who achieved at a high level.\u00a0 Would they be more effective leaders if these circumstances were not true?\u00a0 Yes. The bigger question is: Should I avoid using potentially controversial people as examples?\r\n<h3><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3571 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/curly-sq.jpg\" alt=\"Curly\" width=\"180\" height=\"180\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/curly-sq.jpg 180w, https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/curly-sq-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/>What about this Guy?<\/h3>\r\nAnother of my recently featured characters was <a title=\"Curly The Trail Boss and the Secret to Life\" href=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/curly-the-trail-boss-and-the-secret-to-life\/\">Curly The Trail Boss<\/a> from the film<em> City Slickers<\/em>.\u00a0 Curly, while fictional, is flawed in many ways.
