adage.\r\n<blockquote><strong>If you want something done right, you&#8217;ve got to do it yourself.<\/strong><\/blockquote>\r\nAs long as you believe this is true, it will be. It&#8217;s one of several common excuses for NOT delegating. Here are some more:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>By the time I train someone, I could have finished doing it.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>They don&#8217;t have the _______________. Fill in the blank with: <strong>talent<\/strong>, <strong>knowledge<\/strong>, <strong>experience<\/strong>, <strong>patience<\/strong>, <strong>proper attitude<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>No one cares about this like I do.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>I really like doing it<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3>Self-Fulfilling Prophecy<\/h3>\r\nThese are <strong>excuses<\/strong> for avoiding delegation. As long as you believe these excuses are valid, you&#8217;re right. How important is it to be <em>right<\/em> about this? What would happen if you were <em>wrong?<\/em> What if you allowed yourself to be pleasantly surprised by someone else&#8217;s ability to take things off of your plate?\r\n<h3><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-4241 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/schoolbus-mso.jpg\" alt=\"Bus\" width=\"280\" height=\"247\" title=\"\">A New Adage<\/h3>\r\nWhen you find yourself about to perform a task that could or should be <em><strong>delegated<\/strong><\/em>, consider this:\r\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The Principal doesn&#8217;t drive the School Bus.<\/strong><\/h4>\r\nConsider the role of a School Principal. What would people think about the <strong><em>administration ability<\/em><\/strong> of a Principal who regularly found it necessary to get behind the wheel of a bus?\r\n\r\nIt is easy to understand that driving a school bus is a mutually diminishing behavior for a School Principal and the bus driver. But when it comes to the <em>bus driving<\/em> tasks in your job, you can struggle seeing the difference.\r\n<h3>Delegation Quiz<\/h3>\r\nI challenge you to answer this fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice question.\r\n\r\n<hr \/>\r\n\r\n<h4>Delegation requires ____________.<\/h4>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>A:<\/strong> Effective Communication Skills<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>B:<\/strong> Attitude<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>C:<\/strong> Patience<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>D: <\/strong>Trust<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>E:<\/strong> All of the above<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr \/>\r\n\r\n<h3>Reality Check<\/h3>\r\nThe answer is easy on paper. But more challenging in practice.
