blog now has a new name.\u00a0 <strong><em>SMART Leadership<\/em><\/strong> is now <strong><em>Leadership Breakthroughs<\/em><\/strong>.\r\n<h3>The History<\/h3>\r\nI&#8217;ve referenced the SMART acronym (<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/SMART_criteria\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a goal setting criteria<\/a>) on blogs since 2003.\u00a0 Beginning with <a href=\"https:\/\/vista-development.com\/working-smart\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><em>Working SMART<\/em><\/strong><\/a> and later on this site, p.k.a. <strong><em>SMART Leadership<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 The title framed content that supported our business of leadership development through executive coaching.\u00a0 Goal achievement skills <em>have been<\/em> and remain an important part of leadership coaching.\u00a0 But there&#8217;s so much more.\r\n<h3>Not So Smart<\/h3>\r\nPlus, there are a lot of <strong><em>so-called leaders<\/em><\/strong> who have frustrated followers by misusing the SMART concept by arbitrarily <a title=\"Attainability in SMART Goals\" href=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/attainability-in-smart-goals\/\">handing down<strong> unattainable goals<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/a>and demanding compliance.\u00a0 Their force-fed, frustrated followers want to run away and hide with the mere mention of the acronym.\u00a0 Shameful misuse of authority.\r\n<h3>Communicating An Outcome vs. Activity<\/h3>\r\nAs Chicago Executive Coaching evolved, I discovered a <em><strong>common thread<\/strong> <\/em>connecting the most successful engagements:\u00a0 Clients&#8217; results come from <strong><em>breakthroughs<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Their ah-ha moments lead to positive change in <em><strong>attitudes<\/strong><\/em>, <strong><em>behaviors<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>skills<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>focus<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 By listening to<a title=\"Testimonials\" have also led to <strong><em>breakthroughs<\/em><\/strong>.\r\n<h3>Why Change?<\/h3>\r\nSMART Leadership was a nice enough name.\u00a0 But there&#8217;s an important marketing principle that service providers too often forget:\r\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">People aren&#8217;t buying your service.<\/h4>\r\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">They&#8217;re really buying what the service will do for them.<\/h4>\r\nWhy not communicate an outcome?
