data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>There\u2019s\u00a0an occupational hazard In my\u00a0profession; attempting to\u00a0<em>coach<\/em>\u00a0the\u00a0<em>un-coachable<\/em><em>.<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0I work to\u00a0avoid the situation. I hate seeing time and money wasted. But how do you predict it?<\/p><p>We typically start coaching with\u00a0a simple\u00a0<strong>Key Assumption<\/strong>:<\/p><h4><strong>This is a\u00a0<em>coachable person<\/em><\/strong>.<\/h4><p>Neither party wants to believe this assumption is false. \u00a0Especially the person being coached.<\/p><blockquote><p><strong><em>\u201cOf course, I\u2019m coachable!\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><p>But wait! What does that\u00a0<em>really<\/em>\u00a0mean? \u00a0To explore a person\u2019s\u00a0<em>coachability,<\/em>\u00a0let\u2019s\u00a0start by asking..<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b82221b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"b82221b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Whose Idea is This?\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-93f029e e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"93f029e\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e33e790 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e33e790\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Here are some qualifying\u00a0questions to learn more:<\/p><ul><li>Has this person\u00a0<em>raised their hand<\/em>\u00a0to request coaching? \u00a0Or can they agree there is a need\u00a0<em>and<\/em>\u00a0a\u00a0want?<\/li><li>Or did someone raise it for them? \u00a0Is it someone else\u2019s idea? \u00a0If so, can they trust and embrace the advice\u00a0of that\u00a0<em>someone else? \u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/li><\/ul><p>Outside intervention\u00a0is\u00a0<em>not<\/em>\u00a0a deal breaker. \u00a0It\u00a0<strong><em>is<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0a reason to look closer look at the mindset of the coaching candidate. \u00a0If it\u2019s not the coaching candidate\u2019s\u00a0idea or they\u00a0can\u2019t embrace the idea, it\u00a0<strong><em>is<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0a yellow warning flag for\u00a0<em>coachability<\/em>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-61e1602 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"61e1602\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/raise-hand2-225x300.png\" class=\"attachment-medium size-medium wp-image-5320\" alt=\"Raised Hand\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/raise-hand2-225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/raise-hand2-113x150.png 113w, https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/raise-hand2.png 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" title=\"\">\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eba30fa e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"eba30fa\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-167f41f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"167f41f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Just Asking<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e2eb063 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e2eb063\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>How is it that some really smart people fail to achieve at high levels?\u00a0 \u00a0We\u2019ve seen people with an abundance of knowledge, intellect and skills. Yet they flounder. \u00a0 Why does that happen? Can you be too smart for your own good? Perhaps the answer lies in asking\u2026<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9dc6be3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9dc6be3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Are You Coachable or Merely Teachable?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cdcdc27 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cdcdc27\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Most everyone\u00a0wants to\u00a0believe they are\u00a0<em>coachable<\/em>. For the un-coachable, one misconception is: \u201cI really like learning new things,\u00a0therefore I must be\u00a0<em>coachable<\/em>\u201c. Is that assumption\u00a0<em>always<\/em>\u00a0true? \u00a0Let\u2019s take a closer look at the definitions.<\/p><ul><li>When you are\u00a0<strong><em>teachable<\/em><\/strong>, you have the ability to learn. \u00a0The ability to consume knowledge. \u00a0Is that where it ends?<\/li><li>To be\u00a0<strong><em>coachable<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0you need the ability to actually DO something new and different with the your knowledge. \u00a0Coachable people have the ability to develop\u00a0<strong>new<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>attitudes<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>habits<\/strong>.<\/li><li>When coaching remains\u00a0someone else\u2019s idea,\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>attitude<\/strong>\u00a0obstacles are\u00a0difficult to overcome.<\/li><li>Developing Leadership skills requires changing your existing habits and beliefs. \u00a0Without a compelling reason to let go of your past habits and beliefs, you\u2019re not likely to develop. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/when-theres-no-why-theres-no-way\/\">When there\u2019s no why, there\u2019s no way.<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c1b6cb3 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"c1b6cb3\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8e9fa9a elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8e9fa9a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Execution Box (a.k.a. KASH Box) illustrates the difference between simply\u00a0<strong>knowing<\/strong>\u00a0and actually\u00a0<strong>doing: \u00a0<em>teachability\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>vs.<strong>\u00a0coachability.<\/strong><\/p><p><em>Coachable<\/em>\u00a0people are able to both\u00a0<strong>learn<\/strong>\u00a0AND\u00a0<strong>execute<\/strong>\u00a0(do). Those who are\u00a0<strong><em>teachable<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0but\u00a0<strong>not\u00a0<em>coachable<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0can understand but lack the desire and discipline to do what\u2019s needed.<\/p><p>Is the person being coached seeking<strong><em>\u00a0knowledge for the sake of knowledge<\/em><\/strong>? \u00a0Or knowledge for the sake of meaningful positive change? \u00a0Only the latter is truly coachable.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-660de05 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"660de05\"
