can&#8217;t afford it&#8221;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>The engineer who proclaims: \u00a0&#8220;That will never work.&#8221; \u00a0or &#8220;It can&#8217;t be done.&#8221;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>The tenured folks who may say: &#8220;That&#8217;s not how we do things here.&#8221;<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nIt&#8217;s enough to drive an optimist into submission. \u00a0And sometimes it does.\r\n<h3>What&#8217;s a Leader to Do?<\/h3>\r\nHere\u00a0are my\u00a0ideas:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Gain agreement on the desired outcome and\/or intended result of the new idea or action.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>When you hear\u00a0obstacles and objections being raised, don&#8217;t indiscriminately\u00a0accept them. \u00a0Question their validity.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Understand that the primary\u00a0<em>emotion<\/em> in play here\u00a0is <strong><em>fear<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0What can you do to relieve the concerns that are driving that fear?<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Armed with\u00a0the\u00a0agreement on the outcome: challenge the naysayers with some form of this\u00a0simple, challenging question:<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<table style=\"background-color: #ffffff; border-color: #ffffff;\" border=\"0\">\r\n<tbody>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td style=\"width: 120px; border-color: #ffffff; text-align: center; vertical-align: middle;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2755 size-full\" take?&#8221;<\/h2>\r\n<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<\/tbody>\r\n<\/table>\r\n\r\n<hr \/>\r\n\r\n<h3>The Power in this &#8220;Leading&#8221; Question<\/h3>\r\nEngaging your followers in this challenge launches a conversation of possibilities. There is no place for <em>negativity<\/em> when the topic is <em>possibility<\/em>. \u00a0The <strong>assumption<\/strong> is that the goal <strong>is<\/strong> attainable given the right support, resources and commitment. \u00a0If we discover that we are not willing to pay the price, at least it&#8217;s an informed decision. \u00a0It&#8217;s a decision making process that avoids <em>giving in<\/em> at the first sign of an obstacle.
