up in scenarios where Benjamin Franklin&#8217;s concept of insanity applies:<\/p><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>&#8220;<em>The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results<\/em>.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><p>So I&#8217;m compelled to share some ways to regain our sanity. We must:<\/p><ol><li>Realize that a different result is needed<\/li><li>Step out of our comfort zone to change our old attitudes and actions<\/li><\/ol><p>For most changes, this is easier said than done. In helping executives to implement positive behavior change, I&#8217;ve learned that I can&#8217;t help those who don&#8217;t want to help themselves. When I am engaged by an intermediary or third party to help or &#8220;fix&#8221; someone, I tread carefully. I understand that &#8220;<em>when the student is ready, the teacher will appear<\/em>&#8220;. And while I have effective tools and skills stoking people&#8217;s internal fire, there must be at least a spark to begin with. I have developed the strong belief:<\/p><h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>When there&#8217;s a WHY, there&#8217;s a way. The insight can be applied to improve communications in leadership, marketing and every day life. The book is Simon Sinek&#8217;s <\/span><em style=\"background-color: white; color: black;\">Start With Why<\/em><span style=\"background-color: white; color: black;\">. I&#8217;ve read <\/span><a style=\"background-color: white;\" href=\"http:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/resources\/recommended-reads\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stacks of business books<\/a><span style=\"background-color: white; color: black;\">. My copy of <\/span><em style=\"background-color: white; color: black;\">Start With Why<\/em><span style=\"background-color: white; color: black;\"> has more yellow highlighter ink on its pages than any book I&#8217;ve read since college. My clients and friends who view it typically go back to listen multiple times. Meanwhile, I will share his most repeated line.\u00a0<em>\u201cPeople don\u2019t buy what you do<\/em>\u00a0(or want to do).\u00a0<em>They buy\u00a0<strong>why\u00a0<\/strong>you do it<\/em>\u201c.<\/p><p>As you seek to help others to avoid or overcome the insanity of doing the same thing repeatedly, remember:\u00a0<strong><em>when there is no why, there is no way<\/em><\/strong>.
