whose career was suddenly jeopardized by a series of team performance mishaps. Several wheels had fallen off. Top management now noticed the adverse effects. They knew just who to blame. After some discussion and inquiry with my client, she realized that she was working with several flawed assumptions. \u00a0She <strong><em>assumed<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0that everyone on her team had her\u00a0same high level of personal accountability. The result is she didn\u2019t believe it was necessary to hold them accountable and regularly discuss how they tracked and improved the performance of their teams. \u00a0Her\u00a0<em><strong>assumption<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>that\u00a0<strong><em>accountability discussions<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0were unnecessary also served her belief that being a leader who conducts uncomfortable discussions made her a bad boss.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8f3b609 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"8f3b609\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b514820 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"b514820\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b0e1931 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"b0e1931\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Spare the Carpet, Spoil the Team<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-15b1ba2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"15b1ba2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In the heading above,\u00a0I carefully altered\u00a0the parenting axiom that might\u00a0condone\u00a0Corporal Punishment. \u00a0By replacing the word \u201crod\u201d with \u201ccarpet\u201d, I want to empathize that holding others\u00a0<strong><em>accountable<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0for their responsibilities and promises means you will inevitably need to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dictionary.com\/browse\/call-on-the-carpet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>call them on the carpet<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0to discuss\u00a0results and\u00a0performance. Embracing the belief that\u00a0effective leaders should\u00a0<em>never<\/em>\u00a0take a\u00a0<em><strong>parental approach\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>can be hazardous to your career.
