Success<\/h2><p>In case you&#8217;ve missed <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/the-3-cs-of-success\/\">Tom 3 C&#8217;s for Success<\/a><\/strong>, I ranked clarity #1. The 3 Cs are, in order:<\/p><ol><li>Clarity<\/li><li>Confidence<\/li><li>Commitment<\/li><\/ol><p>Without clarity, it&#8217;s tough to gain either <strong><em>confidence<\/em><\/strong> or <strong><em>commitment<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0Also true for<em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/4th-c-success\/\"> The 4th C<\/a><\/strong><\/em>.<\/p><h2>Clarity in History<\/h2><p>Because clarity is so important, let me attempt to be <em>perfectly clear<\/em> about defining it. \u00a0I use the term perfectly clear somewhat tongue-in-cheek. \u00a0It was a pet phrase of former President Nixon and his impersonators. The preface was often completed with &#8220;I am not a crook&#8221;.\u00a0 The rest is history.<\/p><blockquote><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>&#8220;Let me make one thing perfectly clear&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0&#8211; Richard Nixon<\/p><\/blockquote><p>When it comes to clarity or anything else, how often is <strong>true perfection<\/strong> really attainable? \u00a0 Was <em>Tricky Dick<\/em> setting the bar too high? \u00a0Back to the real question.<\/p><p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6868\" src=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/clarity-mso.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"212\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/clarity-mso.jpg 320w, https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/clarity-mso-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/chicagoexecutivecoaching.com\/smartleadership\/wp-content\/uploads\/clarity-mso-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/>What do I mean by &#8220;clarity&#8221;? \u00a0What do we need to be clear about?<\/p><p>First, here&#8217;s my chosen <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dictionary.com\/browse\/clarity?s=t\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dictionary.com definition<\/a><\/p><blockquote><h4><span style=\"font-size: 18.75px;\">Clarity<\/span><\/h4><ol><li>clearness or lucidity as to perception or understanding; freedom from indistinctness or ambiguity.<\/li><\/ol><\/blockquote><h2>Clear Enough?<\/h2><p>OK. There are a lot of big words in that definition. Let&#8217;s <strong><em>clarify<\/em><\/strong>. Perception and understanding of WHAT exactly? \u00a0What kind of clarity do we need to pursue success more effectively? \u00a0What we need are <strong><em>Clarity Categories<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0Here are my suggestions.<\/p><h3>&#8216;Sense-of-Self&#8217; Clarity<\/h3><p>How well do you understand your place in the world?\u00a0 How clear is your purpose? Where are you now? How comfortable are you in your own skin?<\/p><h3>Role Clarity<\/h3><h5>At work:<\/h5><p>Where do your job responsibilities begin? \u00a0Where do they end? \u00a0You might have a job title and description. \u00a0But what does all that really mean? \u00a0How does your <strong><em>role clarity<\/em><\/strong> affect your decision making and job performance?<\/p><h5>Off Duty<\/h5><p>What are your key relationships outside of work? \u00a0How clear are you with your understanding of your roles as a:<\/p><ul><li>Spouse?<\/li><li>Sibling?<\/li><li>Parent?<\/li><li>Child?<\/li><li>Friend?<\/li><\/ul><p>Assuming that these roles are important to you, how important is <strong><em>role clarity<\/em><\/strong>? \u00a0How would you rate yours for each of your key relationships?<\/p><h3>Goal Clarity<\/h3><p>What are your most important personal goals? \u00a0Your most important professional goals? \u00a0How do you balance, prioritize and commit to them?<\/p><h3>Talent Clarity<\/h3><p>What are your <em>world class<\/em> skills and abilities?\u00a0 \u00a0In which tasks do you perform poorly no matter how hard you try?<\/p><h3>Self-Direction Clarity<\/h3><p>What&#8217;s next for you? \u00a0What&#8217;s your vision for the future? \u00a0What do you want life to deliver to you in the time you have left?
