Sometimes it&#8217;s better for all to simply play on.\u00a0 Should the phrase apply to <em>name calling<\/em>?<\/p><h3>Here&#8217;s the Rub<\/h3><p>We can&#8217;t deny that humans are emotional beings.\u00a0 Is it OK to assume that hurt feelings don&#8217;t matter?\u00a0<\/p><p>In the case of deeply hurtful language, it can be really challenging to decide to unaffected.\u00a0 We all have different triggers.\u00a0 For Marty McFly, calling him <em><strong>chicken<\/strong><\/em> unleashed deeply rooted feelings stemming from his father&#8217;s lack of fortitude. How do you navigate this minefield?\u00a0 I have two simple recommendations.<\/p><ol><li><strong>Enhance Your EMPATHY and thereby take extra care to avoid inflammatory language<\/strong>. Be aware of the potential for intolerance of your choice of words.<\/li><li><strong>Lead by example.<\/strong>\u00a0 Remember &#8220;<em>sticks and stones<\/em>&#8220;.\u00a0 Words will only harm you if you choose to let them.
