ask:\u00a0<\/p><ul><li>How many times were you stopped by a traffic light?\u00a0<\/li><li>Which traffic lights were green?\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><p>If you&#8217;re like most people, you don&#8217;t remember.\u00a0 Safe driving is a critical skill. Yet routine trips don&#8217;t require much thought or awareness.\u00a0<\/p><p>Traveling to work is something that you&#8217;ve done so often, you can do it without thinking. It&#8217;s not routine.\u00a0 It requires <em>conscious thought<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p><p>The operative word here is <strong><em>habitual<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Our <em><strong>habits<\/strong> <\/em>enable us to put our lives on cruise control.\u00a0 Repetitive actions program us to be more efficient. Imagine how exhausting it would be to have to think about everything you do.\u00a0 Stroke victims learn this first hand when they have to re-learn how to position their tongues to form words.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-df7798f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"df7798f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title attitudes that support positive behavior change, most of us don&#8217;t know what we don&#8217;t know.\u00a0 Perhaps I can help with is built upon published principals that date back to 1969.\u00a0 I want to acknowledge the origins.\u00a0<\/p><p>The enhanced model graphic shown above evolved through collaboration with my colleague <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/ray-overdorff-34a02a12\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ray Overdorff<\/a>.\u00a0 We met in 2002. Ray had already used and applied this model for Leadership Development for about a decade prior.\u00a0<\/p><p>Along with others in my affiliate network, I&#8217;ve used this development tool to help hundreds of leaders continue to cross the bridge of discovery.\u00a0<\/p><h3>More History<\/h3><blockquote><p>In\u00a0<a title=\"Psychology\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Psychology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">psychology<\/a>, the\u00a0<b>four stages of competence<\/b>, or the &#8220;conscious competence&#8221; learning model, relates to the psychological states involved in the process of progressing from incompetence to competence in a\u00a0<a title=\"Skill\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Skill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">skill<\/a>.\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Four_stages_of_competence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wilkipedia<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote><p>The origin model was developed in the 70s by\u00a0 Noel Burch, an employee with Gordon Training International and was called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindtools.com\/pages\/article\/newISS_96.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Conscious Competence Ladder.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p><p>Leadership author John Maxwell labeled it <strong><em>The Law of Process<\/em><\/strong>.
