So, effective delegation skills are a leadership essential. Like all intangibles, delegation skills are never fully mastered. Let\u2019s look at what it takes to become a better delegator. Effective delegation begins by understanding the difference between\u00a0<strong>assigning a task<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>delegating responsibility<\/strong>. I\u2019d like to make General George Patton\u00a0<em>responsible<\/em>\u00a0for helping me describe the difference, While he\u2019s no longer with us, this quote is up to the\u00a0<em>task<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p><blockquote><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>\u201cNever tell people how to do things. I occasionally dust off my DVD to revisit his other great quotes like:\u00a0<em>\u201cI hate paying for the same real estate twice\u201d<\/em>. And, George C. Scott\u2019s Oscar winning performance is always worth revisiting.\u00a0 The driven General Patton and I agree that, when delegating, sharing\u00a0<strong><em>\u201cwhat\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is better than\u00a0<strong><em>\u201chow\u201d<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 To take your delegation skills to an even higher level, let\u2019s consider key concepts from two leadership thought They own their attitudes, not you.\u00a0 Another legendary WW2 leader, Dwight D. Eisenhower, sums it up:<\/p><h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201c<em><strong>Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it.<\/strong><\/em>\u201c<\/h4><p>That \u201cwant to\u201d comes from motive ownership.
