It’s courage. As children, we all learned the importance of courage from the Cowardly Lion character in The Wizard of Oz. As the Lion overcame his fears to help rescue Dorothy and secure the broom from the Wicked Witch of the West, the Wizard rewarded him with a metal of courage.
In the case of the cowardly lion, courage was a virtue that he had suppressed. But it was buried inside. The mission to rescue Dorothy and the support of his companions provided him with the clarity, confidence and commitment he needed to muster the courage required to succeed. The Hero’s Metal that The Wizard awarded him gave him validation.
