I’m hearing the term Self Aware more frequently. So much so that I wonder if it is gaining buzz word status. If you’re getting ready to start buzzing/bragging to others about your own self awareness, proceed with caution. You’re likely about to write a check that your actions won’t be able to cash.
Why is self proclamation of self awareness such a slippery slope? Let’s enhance your awareness with a simple definition.
Self Awareness: having conscious knowledge of one’s own character and feelings.

What is your level of self-awareness? Is it possible to be incompletely in touch with your character and feelings? Please be aware that character and feelings run much deeper than most of us can completely comprehend.

The fact is: you function mostly in cruise control mode. Your subconscious is driving our personal vehicle (routine actions) most of the time. When you’re accomplished, you’re able to act without thinking. That’s what makes all of us effective. And when that’s happening, we are not conscious and by definition you’re un-aware.
You can tell others about how self-aware you are. Just know that your claim will be met with skepticism. When you boast about your self-awareness in the presence of people with a high level of consciousness, you’re probably writing a bad check. The human brain contains about 100 billion neurons. Are you tracking them all?
As with pursuing success or happiness, gaining self-awareness is not a destination. It’s a journey. The more awareness you gain, the more you will find new opportunities to climb the Ladder of Awareness. The higher you advance on the ladder, the more you’re able to see the steps above you and gain the ability to advance. The more you believe you have a handle on your consciousness, the less likely you are to improve it. (more).
