Once again I have proven that all of us can benefit from coaching.
As a sometimes stubborn do-it-yourself-er, I didn’t know what I didn’t know about on-camera presentation. My minimal experience didn’t stop me from trying to self record and produce. Here is an early example of me and my webcam.
I am fortunate that I happen to know a video marketing guy also serves as a coach for on-camera performances. I’ve known Jared Silver of At-A-Glance Marketing for about 10 years. We have several clients in common. I’ve always admired his light, creative, yet professional approach. When I finally decided to get a professionally produced web site video for Chicago Executive Coaching, Jared was my obvious choice. As you can see from the video below, Jared did more than just set-up and shoot. He coached me throughout the production and helped me discover some of the nuances of performing in front of a camera. If you’ve ever tried it, you know it is really different from speaking to an audience. Especially when you’re working to compress a semi-scripted message into a 60 to 90 second segment.
As with many aspiring epic film productions, my intro video has a story behind the story. I am certainly not claiming that my performance was epic. But since Jared created a “making of” video, I thought it would be fun to share. If Bob Rohrman can air his out-takes, why can’t I?
Sometimes we have trouble taking our own advice. I love to remind others:
It took me longer than it should have to abandon my Do-It-Yourself mindset toward producing an introductory website video. We can all benefit from the once frequent recommendation of advise columnists like Dear Abby and Ann Landers:
“Seek Professional Help”
If you are considering using video to market your business and want to put your best foot forward, you can see how Jared can help you get it done and done well.
