Meaningful Motion Picture Messages

The Jimmy Stewart Christmas classic, It’s a Wonderful Life was produced in 1946.  Since it is such a classic, most of us born after 1946 have enjoyed its timeless message about what is really important in life.

Executive SuiteIt’s A Wonderful Business

Most of us born after 1954 have missed the film Executive Suite.  It depicts an internal struggle for control of a furniture manufacturing company after the unexpected death of the company’s President. As with the Christmas classic It’s a Wonderful Life, the movie presents a powerful message about what should be really important when leading a business.

Through the power of YouTube, here is the compelling, 9 minute, closing scene to Executive Suite.

What’s Happened Over The Past 60 Years?

  • We don’t see smoking in Board Rooms anymore.
  • The title of CEO was not yet invented.
  • Bean Counters and Visionaries continue their endless debate over the elements needed for effective leadership.
  • An organization that makes decisions driven by a compelling vision and strong core values will outperform those driven by short term efficiencies.
  • What did you notice?

  1. Tom, thank you for this post. I had not heard of this movie before.

I come away with the more things change the more they stay the same. We must know our WHY! Why do we do what we do? The very top of defining WHY! is doing the right thing for the Customer (Client). This leads to an enterprise with life and abundance.

    Best…Scott (Scooter)
