Swept underPick Your Procrastination Metaphor

There’s a variety of ways we describe procrastination.
  • Kick the can down the road
  • Sweeping things under the rug
  • Put it on the back burner
However you choose to describe your form of procrastination, there’s a good chance you’re putting off some important, yet unpleasant tasks.  When you remove that unpleasantness from sight, there’s always a day when it rears its ugly head.

Why Does it Happen?

It’s not that we can’t.  We simply won’t.  We habitually take the path of least resistance.  What does it cost you?

Your Routine Decisions

For all you chocolate lovers, here’s some food for thought, if not for consumption. What’s your favorite pig-out food? Chocolate? Cookie dough? Pizza? Cheeseburgers?  Wouldn’t be great if you live on a diet of nothing but your favorite pig-out food?Practically speaking, you can’t sustain a diet of pig out food.  If you value your health, there comes a time when you need to eat your veggies.  The same holds true for choosing to tackle unpleasant tasks.Chocolate vs Broccoli

What’s Your Broccoli?

ChecklistWhat are three important things on your plate that you have pushed to side for later consumption?  My best advise is to write your three things down.

Then ask yourself:

  • What is my procrastination costing me?
  • How good would I feel if I tackled these one at a time?
  • What is one simple thing I could do to get started?
  • What needs to be entered in my calendar or to-do list to make this happen?
