What’s “New”?

NewWe all like to pursue things that are “new”. In fact, new is what advertising copywriters’ call a power word. You’ll notice how frequently it appears in advertising headlines, email subject lines, radio/TV ads and more.NBCThere are times when our not-so-new stuff is still really good and warrants promoting and/or sharing.  Here’s my favorite case study.  The major TV networks nearly never run original, prime-time programming during the summer months.  Hence the term; Summer Reruns.  Years ago, NBC came up with a brilliant slogan to promote watching their summer prime time line-up.

If you haven’t seen it before, it’s NEW to you.

NBC thereby changed the perception of their programming from dated re-runs to personally new.

As you review the Top Five Posts list above, and ask yourself:  Is there some new breakthrough idea there for me?  Or if you have seen it before;  Is there something I missed?

We all pursue things new and popular.  And we hate the idea of missing out.
